Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name. He will surely plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, but unrest to the inhabitants of Babylon. (Jeremiah 50:34)
Text: Jeremiah 49-52; Proverbs 28
Jeremiah closes with harsh prophecy about the future of Babylon, followed by the sad tale of Jerusalem’s fall. Yet there are glimpses of hope. This is the message from the Lord to us all: Things are a mess. Things will get worse. But in the end, there is light, beauty, glory, peace and joy in an wonderful ever after. This is all made possible by a Savior who will redeem God’s people.
When we think of Jesus as “redeemer” we usually think of the price He paid for us on the cross. We envision the humble, dying Jesus. But when we think of the “Lord of hosts” we see a might warrior King at the head of a vast army. The fact is Jesus is both of these. It is by His blood we are saved,. And it is by His might that our strong and dangerous enemy will be bound and cast into oblivion. Praise Jesus! Hail or conquering King!
in Him, Mike
