Text: John 19 (Deuteronomy 19-20)
As Jesus is crucified, He speaks seven different times. Each utterance sends us a powerful message about Jesus’ character. John records three of these, including this:
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. (John 26-27).
Jesus cares deeply about His mother, and He makes the provision for John to care for her after Jesus is gone. This picture of family love and care is Jesus’ heart for us as well. We have been given the same task – to love one another and care for one another on His behalf. Whom do you know today that needs love and care?
