Text: John 1 (Numbers 19-20)
John opens his Gospel in an unusual way, unlike the other three Gospels’ authors. He provides a remarkable summary of just who Jesus is.
“In the beginning was the Word…” (John 1:1)
“Word” here translates a Greek word (logos) that has a sweeping meaning, to include thought, speech, meaning, reason, proportions, principle, standard, or logic among other things. “Word” is the divine reason implicit in the cosmos, ordering it and giving it form and meaning. This is Jesus, the Word. Amazing. In the rest of the chapter, we learn that Jesus is also God, Creator, Light, Only God, Lamb of God, Son of God, Messiah, King of Israel, and Son of Man. And that’s just chapter one. Jesus is all. He is the centerpiece, the masterpiece and the final peace. Praise Jesus, Name above all names.
