Good morning!

Text:  John 8 (Numbers 35-36)

In John 9 we read of Jesus bringing sight to a man born blind. As the story unfolds, Jesus says these words:

We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.  (John 9:4)

In 2004 I went on a short-term mission to the Ukraine.  There we encountered new Christians with an incredible thirst to learn all they could and to serve Jesus wholeheartedly.  We were asked to teach at a weeknight evening Bible class at a Church in Kiev.  Hundreds of young adults were there.  Having worked all day, they had come for three hours of Bible lessons.  They did this three nights a week.  When we asked the pastor about their commitment, he spoke of the terrible time just past when any such meetings were outlawed by the communists.  He said, “The Lord removed the communists in a night.  It is daytime now.  We must run as fast as we can, because the darkness could return in just another night.”
We may not feel an imminent threat that the government will oppress or persecute…. but the truth is that it is “day” for us.  We must do the work of the Father while we can.  Oh that today, this very day, we would run as fast as we can for the Lord.
