Text: John 8 (Numbers 33-34)
Seven times in John’s Gospel, we read of Jesus saying “I AM….” In John 8:12 He says,
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Light is good. In fact, whenever Biblical literature uses light as a metaphor, it speaks of good. Evil is darkness – darkness conceals the truth, darkness prevents us from seeing and staying on the path, darkness allows evil deeds to go unseen, and darkness denies us from seeing trouble as it approaches. Light is the opposite. It shows us truth, guides us on the safe path and prevents evil. What’s more, light brings life.
This is Jesus – the light of the world. For us to have all that He is – light, goodness, life, truth, safety – it is our job to follow Him. When we do, we “will have the light of life.” And, near the light – Jesus – no darkness can abide. Amen!
in Him, Mike
