Text: Mark 16 (Exodus 37-38)
The closing of Mark’s Gospel includes a version of the Great Commission we all are to fulfill with our lives and in our church (see Matthew 28:18-20). Mark’s words are right in form, always simple and to the point:
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” (Mark 16:15-16)
These words are simple and sweeping. We are to go into all the world – to every corner, every people, and every person. And we are to tell the Good News to “the whole creation.” To be so excited about the Gospel that you would be telling the trees and the streams and the birds about Jesus… well that is pretty excited. What would it take to get that fired up?
And what about the stakes? To believe and to be baptized (two simple steps) is to be saved, but to not believe means doom. Life and death. And the two simple steps? Just believe and be baptized. How about you? Do you believe? Have you been baptized? If so, you are saved. So, are you excitedly telling any and all about Jesus? It cannot get much simpler than that.
in Him, Mike
