Text: Matthew 26 (Exodus 1-2)
In Matthew 26 we find Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane after the Last Supper. It is there Jesus’ betrayal comes to fruit as He is taken captive. But first, Jesus prays in anguish… and the disciples fall asleep.
And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? (Matthew 26:40)
It is so easy for us to underestimate the importance of prayer. Jesus is about to be arrested, tried, beaten, mocked and die on the cross where He will face the very wrath of God for all the sins of the world. Jesus prays. But the disciples snooze. What a picture of our own need to be reminded that prayer is to be a huge priority. This is also a reminder of our need to pray together. Even Jesus, the perfect Son of God, felt the need for prayer partners. So, a call to prayer for us all! Pray throughout each day. Attend church prayer meetings. Pray!
in Him, Mike
