And the angel said to those who were standing before him, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” And to him he said, “Behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments.” (Zechariah 3:4).
Text: Zechariah 1-3; Isaiah 49
Zechariah is a prophet who brings words of hope and consolation. He writes at the end of the Babylonian captivity – a painful time visited upon God’s people as a consequence of their sin. Zechariah sees a vision in which he hears these words spoken of the sinful high priest:
When we have sinned, it is a wonderful thing to be restored. It is the Lord who restores – see how it is the angels who remove the filthy garments. It is the Lord who can take our iniquities away. And He is even able to give us bright, clean new clothes. Those who have received His grace are washed, cleansed, purified and holy before our great God. Thank you, Jesus!
