Text: Daniel 10-12; Psalm 146
Daniel finishes with a flurry of prophetic detail, some of which is remarkable in its accuracy. The utterances about the kings of the north and south in Chapter 11 are about events that were future to Daniel as he wrote in about 535 B.C. They all came true in the actual history of Seleucid and Ptolemaic kings between 323 and 164 B.C. Amazing! That’s how one can test a prophet – if his predictions prove to be true.
A prophetic word in Chapter 12 may apply to life in our times. I like it a lot as it encourages us, as Christians, to live in the truth of Jesus and to walk in His righteous ways:
And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. (Daniel 12:3)
Next time you look up at a clear and bright blue sky or at the stars adorning the night, bring these words to mind. We are called to shine – and for those of us who bring others to the Lord, we “shall shine… like the stars forever and ever.” Wow!
