Text: Isaiah 9-12; Proverbs 3
As we read through the Bible, it is always a delight when the Lord speaks in a fresh way. At the same time, it is a blessing when we re-read something familiar and are brought to remembrance. Sometimes a verse can have life-long meaning – sometimes people even choose a Bible verse and claim it as their “life verse.” Whenever we encounter these verses we are edified, built up as we recall them and how they have spoken to us before. This passage is like that:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
What a powerful reminder that in our flesh, we are not to be trusted to run our lives without the Lord. What a wonderful reminder that we can trust Him to lead us, to guide us, to protect us. What a useful reminder that when we do everything, make every choice with God in mind, He will make the way forward “straight.” Alone I am in a scary place, but when I let God be in charge then I am safe and sound. These words are pure gold. If you have not memorized Scripture in your Christian walk, this one is a good starter.
in Him, Mike
